Starting rehabilitation
As mentioned in the now page of my website, I recently underwent a bi-maxillary surgery of my upper and lower jaws.
Everything went alright, considering I got the following parts added to my body:
- 5 titanium plates
- 30 titanium screws
As well as 2x 2cm3 of human bone transplant to help with my face reconstruction.
Here is a little X-ray picture of the result:
Coming back home was a relief, even though the pain is still super present and I need to regularly take painkillers to go through the day. I didn't had much bleeding since, but my sinuses are still quite congested and swollen.
Now, a week after coming back home and resting 100% of the time, I start the rehabilitation process:
- Checkup meetings with the surgeon and his nurse
- Physiologist appointments to help drain my face and relieve a bit the pain
Later, the work made with the physio will switch from treating the pain, to reeducate my jaw, tongue and throat. With the main aim to allow me breathing and eating properly again. I'm already a little bit impatient regarding when I'll be able to get back to sports. But it'll need much more time before coming to that.
If everything goes well, I should be able to start running, pedalling on the mountain bike and doing proper hiking in late March 2025.
I sincerely hope this will goes well and as planned, being kept inside drives me crazier than ever!
